MASS GENERAL HOSPITAL BICENTENNIAL
To celebrate Massachusetts General Hospital's bicentennial—marking 200 years of healthcare innovation, groundbreaking research, and compassionate care—we were hired by their agency, Whiterhino, to design an engaging, interactive showcase of medical milestones and important dates in the hospital's history.
The visual design was inspired by medical innovation: the view through a microscope, the quest for understanding, and bringing clarity to complex problems. The cursor acts as a clarifying "lens" as visitors explore and move over the number points. In "Randomize" view, all numbers and dates are mixed in a cursor-controlled, rotating, three-dimensional cloud.
The common thread through all of the milestones and facts was numeric, so we visually represented each link with a number or a year. Each leads to content surrounding an important milestone in the hospital's history. Links also lead visitors into the main MGH website for further reading.
In "Topic" view, the numbers cluster into smaller "clouds", sorted by categories of People, Places, Moments, Facts, and Distinctions.
"Timeline" view isolates all date-related facts into a linear timeline.
